Qualifying for the 2009 finals kicked off on 31 May 2007 and ran until 15 October 2008. The final tournament takes place from 15 to 29 June in Sweden. The group stage is based on a league system (three points for a win, one for a draw, none for a defeat) to produce four semi-finalists.
