An astute coach who led LOSC Lille Métropole to a second domestic double last season - 55 years after their first - Rudi Garcia has enjoyed great success since taking over in northern France. His Team of the Year includes six players from UEFA Champions League holders FC Barcelona, and three from the Lille side that served him so well last term.
View Garcia's choices below and submit your own selection before 12.00CET on Friday 6 January.
Goalkeeper: Manuel Neuer (FC Schalke 04/FC Bayern München)
An excellent goalkeeper: in my opinion, probably the best in his position for the future.
Right-back: Daniel Alves (FC Barcelona)
An excellent player on the flank who knows absolutely everything about his position. As skilful in defence as in attack, he would be a valuable asset to any team.
Central defender: Adil Rami (LOSC Lille Métropole/Valencia CF)
A Solid defender, Adil allies power with determination – two fundamental qualities in his position.
Central defender: Gerard Piqué (FC Barcelona)
Above all his many qualities, I am impresed by his calmness. He is the embodiment of what I'd call quiet strength.
Left-back: Marcelo (Real Madrid CF)
Another excellent player. What I want to say about him is that he has an incredible ability on the left.
Right midfield: Gervinho (LOSC Lille Métropole/Arsenal FC)
I know him well. His pace is admirable but, more importantly, on the pitch he is the perfect dribbler of a ball.
Central midfield: Xavi Hernández (FC Barcelona)
Every team needs a player with his make-up to perform at the highest level. He is a must-have.
Attacking midfield: Andrés Iniesta (FC Barcelona)
I'll just sum up my feelings about him by saying that he is the very definition of class.
Left midfield: Eden Hazard (LOSC Lille Métropole)
A pure talent; an outstanding player with a bright future.
Forward: Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid CF)
It's hard to classify him but it is simply imperative he makes my Team of the Year.
Forward: Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
We cannot yet be certain, and time will tell, but we might be lucky enough to have the greatest player of all time among us.
Coach: Josep Guardiola (FC Barcelona)
His team is a reflection of him: they play divine football.
