Last call for Team of the Year

With almost one million votes counted, voting for uefa.com's Team of the Year for 2002 closes on Friday.

With almost one million votes already counted, voting for uefa.com's Team of the Year closes at midnight this Friday.

European clamour
Supporters from all across Europe have been registering their choices for the Team of the Year for 2002 and competition in every position remains fierce. Just as in the UEFA Champions League, there was no shortage of great strikers in our original shortlist for the Team of the Year, and uefa.com readers have been supporting their favourites with all of the determination of the Valencia CF defence.

Striking challenge
At the moment, the final outcome is anyone's guess, with English Premiership stars Ruud van Nistelrooij of Manchester United FC and Thierry Henry of Arsenal FC facing stiff competition from a Real Madrid CF contingent of Raúl González and Ronaldo, but none of the other strikers is out of the running yet.

Turkish passion
The passion of Turkey and their wonderful supporters has also made its mark on our poll with FIFA World Cup goalkeeper Rustü Reçber and coach Senol Günes both receiving massive support.

Mighty challengers
However, both men are facing fierce opposition as they vie for a place in the Team of the Year starting lineup. Rustü faces the might of Germany's Oliver Kahn and Madrid's Iker Casillas in the battle for the No1 shirt, while all five of the shortlisted coaches in our poll could still take their place in uefa.com's dug-out of glory.

Right to choose
Perhaps surprisingly, one of the most hotly contested areas in the team has been the position on the right side of defence, with uefa.com readers split between five candidates. AS Roma's Cafu and Juventus FC's Lilian Thuram have made a strong case for the resurgent power of Serie A, but Carlos Puyol, Míchel Salgado and Curro Torres are fighting back for the Primera División.

Two days left
At the time of publishing, readers have just two days left to register their votes for the uefa.com readers Team of the Year. In order to put democracy into action and ensure that the Team of the Year represents the true voice of European football supporters, we need your vote now.

Vote now!
