Joint-hosts Ukraine have underlined their commitment to UEFA EURO 2012™ after president Viktor Yushchenko was unveiled as head of the country's organising committee.

Yushchenko will lead preparations for the tournament Ukraine are staging in conjunction Poland in five years' time, aided by a 24-person committee which includes a number of other high-profile names. Football Federation of Ukraine president Grigoriy Surkis, national-team coach Oleh Blokhin and captain Andriy Shevchenko are all members, along with boxer Vitali Klitschko and the head of the Ukrainian Olympic Committee, former pole vaulter Serhiy Bubka. One of their first jobs will be to assess, within two months, the action plan being drawn up by the Ukrainian cabinet.
