1965: No problems for 'Grande Inter'

Inter win with three points
FC Internazionale Milano picked up a second successive European/South American Cup to match their second successive European Champion Clubs' Cup, with CA Independiente on the losing side for a second season in a row.
Attacking intent
Inter coach Helenio Herrera, whose side had defeated SL Benfica 1-0 in May to retain their European title, called on the Nerazzurri to attack from the outset in the first leg at San Siro and Independiente were soon overwhelmed. Joaquín Peiró broke the deadlock after only eight minutes, and a goal in each half from Alessandro Mazzola (22 and 59) completed a convincing 3-0 victory.
'Played bravely'
Independiente held the upper hand in the return leg a week later in Avellaneda and struck the crossbar, but Giuliano Sarti was at his best, making up for a costly error in the same stadium the previous year with a string of fine saves to earn a goalless draw and ensure Inter retained the European/South American Cup. Gazzetta dello Sport's front-page headline read: "Inter played bravely; they are champions."
