Feyenoord win 3-2 on aggregate
Having become the first Dutch European champions following an added-time win against Celtic FC, Feyenoord prevailed in a two-legged tie against Argentina's Club Estudiantes de la Plata to claim a maiden European/South American Cup.
Feyenoord fightback
Ernst Happel's side faced a first leg in Argentina, and were swiftly on the back foot at the intimidating La Bombonera ground. Juan Echecopar and Juan Ramon Verón put Estudiantes 2-0 up after only ten minutes but Ove Kindvall (22) pulled one back from Coen Moulijn's cross and the latter flicked on Rinus Israel's free-kick for Wim van Hanegem to register a second-half equaliser with a diving header.
Broken glasses
The Rotterdam side went ahead for the first time in the tie on the hour in the second leg as bespectacled 23-year-old Joop van Daele, a substitute for the legendary Moulijn, received a pass from Henk Wery on the edge of the penalty area and shot hard and low into the left corner of the net. The Argentinian side sought an equaliser in vain, and Feyenoord went on to celebrate with 140,000 of their fans in Rotterdam's Coolsingel Square.
