St Petersburg, founded by Tsar Peter the Great in 1703, was the capital of Russia from 1713-1728 and 1732-1918 and is one of Europe's most famous cities. Home to around 4.7 million people, it lies on the Gulf of Finland and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Known as Petrograd from 1914 and as Leningrad from 1924 until 1991, the city has countless attractions including the Winter Palace and Hermitage Museum, and it added to its sporting achievements this May when FC Zenit St. Petersburg won the UEFA Cup.

Yubileiny Sports Palace
The Yubileiny Sports Palace is an indoor complex and the venue for the inaugural UEFA European Under-21 Futsal Tournament in December 2008. Completed in 1968, it stages a wide variety of sports, including ice hockey and skating, as well as concerts. It can hold up to 7,012 spectators.
