The schedule for the UEFA European Under-21 Futsal Tournament meant the new event kicked off with a match between the sport's dominant force, Spain, and a team making their debut in a UEFA national-team showpiece, Kazakhstan.

Opening day
St Petersburg's Yubileiny Sports Palace is the venue for the tournament from 8-14 December and Spain and Kazakhstan were among eight teams involved. Their encounter was the first of four on the opening day, as their Group B fixture was followed by a match between Italy and Slovenia in Group A. Next up was the other Group B match involving Ukraine and the Netherlands, and then hosts Russia  concluded the day's entertainment against Croatia. Group games continued on 9 and 11 December, with the semi-finals the next day. Italy and Russia won through to the final on 14 December at 16.00 local time (14.00CET).
