Aston Villa FC progressed to the UEFA Cup second qualifying round after a 1-0 home win against Odense BK secured a 3-2 aggregate victory.

Young strike
Ashley Young scored the only goal five minutes after half-time and although the English side had a succession of further chances to make the scoreline more comfortable, there were no more goals. Despite enjoying the better of the early play, Villa only looked threatening from free-kicks and it was OB who carved out the first decent chance after seven minutes when Esben Hansen hit a snap shot from the edge of the area and home keeper Stuart Taylor got down to his left to make a smart stop. Villa were then forced to make an early substitution as Wilfred Bouma had to be carried off after dislocating his ankle in the eleventh minute.

Key moment
Bouma's replacement, Gareth Barry, and Young sent in a succession of dangerous deliveries from set-pieces but the away side had the best chance of the first half from open play when Baye Djiby Fall was sent clear but could only bobble his shot against the post with just Taylor to beat. Young, though, settled the tie after the restart picking up the ball on the right, cutting in and firing into the top corner.
