Borriello suspended after drug test

AC Milan striker Marco Borriello has tested positive for a banned substance and been provisionally suspended, the club have announced.

A sample positive
The Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) found prednisolone and prednisone - both banned corticosteroids - in the A-urine sample of the Milan forward given after their 2-1 home defeat at AS Roma on 11 November. Borriello is now expected to ask for a the B sample to be analysed, and if it also proves positive he could face a ban. UEFA will be following the matter with regard to any impact on Milan's UEFA Champions League fixtures.

Milan statement
In a statement, Milan said: "AC Milan take note of the provisional suspension of player Marco Borriello and is sure that will this situation will be cleared up soon in the best possible way." Borriello, 24, appeared seven times in Serie A this season and three times in the UEFA Champions League.The former Italian Under-21 international returned to Milan in the summer after loan spells at Reggina Calcio, Treviso FC and UC Sampdoria.
