The stadium
The Helsinki Football Stadium was opened in 2000 as well as being used by the capital's biggest club and the national team, it staged the final of the 2003 FIFA U-17 World Cup, with a sell-out crowd watching Brazil beat Spain 1-0. Although it usually has an articifial surface, a grass pitch will be laid for UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™.

The club
HJK are the most successful club in Finland with a record 21 league titles as well as eight Finnish Cups and four League Cups. Founded in 1907, they are the only Finnish side to compete in the UEFA Champions League group stage, beating FC Metz to qualify in 1998/99 and picking up five points including a win against SL Benfica and draw in Lisbon. Among their former players are Jari Litmanen, Mikael Forssel and father and son internationals Alexei Eremenko Sr and Jr.

The city
The capital of Finland since 1812, Helsinki was founded in 1550 but only really grew with its new status in the 19th century. It is now one of the fastest-growing cities in Europe and is home to attractions including the National Museum of Finland. It has a famous sporting heritage; not only was the 1952 Olympic Games held in Helsinki, but also the first IAAF World Championships in Athletics in 1983 and the same event 22 years later.
