Hungary ended Denmark's 28-year unbeaten home competitive record as the FIFA World Cup qualifying Group 1 winners were defeated by an Ákos Buzsáky goal.

Hungary consolation
The Queens Park Rangers FC midfielder struck on 35 minutes, though the three points were not enough to lift Hungary from fourth place. Denmark had secured their place in the finals on Saturday with a 1-0 defeat of Sweden, but Gábor Babos held firm in the Hungary goal tonight and the visitors nearly had a second when József Varga hit the crossbar. Nevertheless, Hungary became the only team to beat Denmark in this campaign, and indeed were the first side to condemn their opponents to a home qualifying loss since 9 September 1981, when they succumbed 2-1 to Yugoslavia.
