In the FIFA Women's World Cup finals the top two teams from each group go into the last eight. Teams finishing level on points in the final tournament groups will be split by (a) overall goal difference, (b) overall goals scored, (c) points gained in matches between teams concerned, (d) goal difference from matches between teams concerned, (e) goals scored in matches between teams concerned, (f) Fair Play point system in which number of yellow and red cards are evaluated, (g) Drawing of lots by the FIFA Organising Committee.

In European qualifying winners of Group 1-5 qualified for final tournament. Groups 6-8 did not carry qualifying places and instead offered chances to gain promotion to the main section for UEFA WOMEN'S EURO 2009™, though under a format change the old two-tier system was replaced by a two-round qualifying competition for future events so the promotion/relegation play-offs were cancelled.
