Turkey moved into second spot in 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying Group D after battling past Estonia in Tallinn to boost their play-off hopes.

Goals from Galatasaray AŞ duo Umut Bulut and Burak Yılmaz ensured Fatih Terim's side took advantage of Hungary's heavy defeat in the Netherlands to leapfrog them into second. They do, however, remain tied on points with Romania who entertain Estonia on the final day, while Turkey face a tougher test as the Dutch arrive in Istanbul on Tuesday.

After a slow start the visitors got their noses in front as Umut was first to Caner Erkin's cross from the left to head the opener past a helpless Sergei Pareiko. Martin Vunk forced Volkan Demirel into action as the hosts responded but Pareiko was given no respite before the half-time whistle, making stops from Gökhan Töre and Mehmet Topal.

The lead was doubled shortly after the interval as Gökhan helped a long ball into the path of the charging Burak and the forward guided his effort into the corner. Estonia refused to go quietly and Volkan again denied Vunk while Sergei Zenjov flashed an effort off target. Turkey were more than worth the points though, and three more against the Netherlands will secure them a ticket for the play-offs.
