Uncapped duo get Klinsmann call

Per Mertesacker and Thomas Hitzlsperger have been called up by Germany for the friendly in Iran.

Central defence
Hannover 96 centre-half Mertesacker, 20, is likely to make his debut as he is one of only two established central defenders in the 19-man squad. The 22-year-old Hitzlsperger has established himself in the English Premiership this season, playing all seven of Aston Villa FC's matches to prove he has the mettle to step up from the Under-21s.

Kahn missing
One familiar face will be missing, however, as Oliver Kahn was left out of the party. The goalkeeper will remain at FC Bayern München to shake off some minor injuries as the 2006 FIFA World Cup hosts travel to Tehran. "We want to give Oliver Kahn the chance to recover and train in Munich for a week and that is why we agreed to leave him out," said Klinsmann, who indicated that Arsenal FC's Jens Lehmann will play for the full 90 minutes.
