Another triumph for Norway

Norway 3-0 Slovenia Norway make it two wins in a week, defeating the side that overcame Italy on Saturday.

Norway completed a perfect week in FIFA World Cup qualifying Group 5 as they followed up Saturday's 1-0 victory in Scotland with a comfortable win against Slovenia - conquerors of Italy four days previously.

Transformed campaign
John Carew's early goal was added to in the final half-hour by Morten Gamst Pedersen and substitute Alexander Ødegaard to take Norway ahead of Slovenia on head-to-head record, with both teams holding seven points from four games. It is a far cry from last month when Norway lost to a late goal in Italy and were held at home by Belarus.

Carew goal
It took only seven minutes for Carew to open the scoring for Norway, who had triumphed in their previous two games against Slovenia in UEFA EURO 2000™ qualifying - when both teams made the eventual final tournament. He won a chase to the ball with visiting goalkeeper Borut Mavric and curled a shot inside the far post for the first goal conceded by Slovenia in the current qualifying campaign.

Lead doubled
The lead remained at one goal until the hour mark, when Pedersen finished from close range. Slovenia had few chances, but Norway goalkeeper Thomas Myhre was forced to make a superb save from Ermin Šiljak.

Victory complete
Ødegaard, who replaced Pedersen with ten minutes left, completing the scoring in added time, and Norway can now look forward to their trip to Moldova on 30 March knowing their campaign is back on course. Slovenia, their unbeaten start ended, continue their bid to qualify for the second World Cup running when they welcome Belarus on the same day.
