Wednesday 17 January 2007As Europe awaits the results of uefa.com's users' Team of 2006 poll on Friday, Olympique Lyonnais central defender Cris has picked himself in his personal team of the year.
Lyon selections
The Brazilian may have been an unused member of the national team at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, but did enough to convince himself of his skills as Lyon won a fifth successive French title. Team-mates Grégory Coupet and Eric Abidal also get the nod along with former colleague Mahamadou Diarra and a host of Brazilian stars.
Cris's Team of 2006
Goalkeeper - Gregory Coupet (Lyon)
He has done a wonderful job at Lyon. He deserves to be named as the best goalkeeper in Europe.
Right back - Willy Sagnol (FC Bayern München)
I like his style because he always wants to attack.
Central defenders - Cris (Lyon) & John Terry (Chelsea FC)
I have improved a lot in my time at Lyon while Terry is the most consistent defender in the world.
Left back - Eric Abidal (Lyon)
He is my friend and he is also a great player.
Right midfielder - Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United FC)
He is really strong and spectacular to watch.
Central midfielder - Mahamadou Diarra (Real Madrid CF)
Even if he has not found his feet at Real Madrid, he is still the best player in this position.
Left midfielder - Ronaldinho (FC Barcelona)
Simply the best.
Attacking midfielder - Kaká (AC Milan)
He is the most complete midfielder around.
Forwards - Didier Drogba (Chelsea) & Thierry Henry (Arsenal FC)
Drogba is unbelievable. I do not hesitate to choose him while I like to watch Henry in action.
Coach - Arsène Wenger (Arsenal)
His work at Arsenal has been amazing.
