Juventus responded to Saturday victories for Serie A pacesetters FC Internazionale Milano and UC Sampdoria with a 1-0 win of their own against bottom-placed AC Siena but ACF Fiorentina fell off the pace with defeat by SSC Napoli.

Amauri winner
UEFA Champions League victors against Maccabi Haifa FC in midweek, the Bianconeri have lost just once all season but struggled to breach a Siena side with just five points to their name. Ciro Ferrara's side broke their hosts' resolve with 18 minutes remaining, Brazilian striker Amauri scoring the game's only goal to ensure Juventus go third, four points off titleholders Inter in top spot.

Late clincher
Fiorentina could have found themselves in a similar position but dropped to fifth after Christian Maggio's 88th-minute strike gave Napoli all three points in Florence. US Città di Palermo capitalised on Cesare Prandelli's side's slip with a similarly slender home triumph over Udinese Calcio, Cesare Bovo finding the net with three minutes remaining to send his team fourth. The top six is completed by AS Bari, 2-0 winners against S.S. Lazio. Paolo Barreto put the hosts in front on eleven minutes and substitute Riccardo Meggiorini added a second on 69 before the visitors' woes were compounded with the 83rd-minute dismissal of Ousmane Dabo.

Rome travails
Lazio's city rivals AS Roma fared no better, losing 1-0 to AS Livorno Calcio. Francesco Tavano's 40th-minute strike proved enough to see Livorno scramble off the foot of the standings despite the second-half sending off of Alfonso De Lucia. Atalanta BC also made hay in the lower echelons with a 3-1 victory over seventh-placed Parma FC, while Cagliari Calcio condemned Genoa CFC to their fifth defeat in six games with a 3-2 home win. AC Chievo Verona hosted AC Milan in the late game and were given the perfect start by Giampiero Pinzi (7) only for two Alessandro Nesta headers, the second deep into added time, to seal a Rossoneri triumph.
