Sunday strolls for Valenciennes and PSG
Sunday 1 November 2009Valenciennes FC climbed to sixth in Ligue 1, six points adrift of leaders FC Girondins de Bordeaux, with a 3-0 win against Stade Rennais FC while Paris Saint-Germain FC claimed their first league victory since 30 August, beating FC Sochaux-Montbéliard 4-1.
Quickfire treble
Valenciennes cruised to their third successive top-flight triumph thanks to a 28-minute spurt of second-half goals. Bobo Baldé got the scoring underway on 58 minutes with his first for the club before Fahid Ben Khalfallah and Grégory Pujol followed suit to condemn the hosts to a defeat that leaves them eleventh.
Clément clincher
One place above that are PSG, who were on league duty for the first time since 18 October following the postponement of last weekend's meeting with Olympique de Marseille. Their return to action was a triumphant one, Jérémy Clément (35), Clément Chantôme (56) Mevlüt Erdinç (75) and Péguy Luyindula (87) all on the mark to end Sochaux's run of three consecutive wins. Le Mans UC 72's 1-0 loss to OGC Nice means they stay one off the bottom, above only point-less Grenoble Foot 38.
