Shay Given saved James McFadden's second-half penalty to help earn Manchester City FC a goalless draw at Birmingham City FC that moves Mark Hughes's side above Tottenham Hotspur FC into fourth.

Ferguson dismissal
City's summer spending spree seemed to suggest an assault on the top four would be forthcoming and Sunday's draw – their fourth in a row – ensures they have been beaten just once all season. Given, a January acquisition from Newcastle United FC, was particularly pivotal in preserving that record at St Andrew's. The 100-cap Republic of Ireland international athletically turned Christian Benítez's first-half effort on to a post before guessing right when McFadden struck from the spot after Nigel De Jong had been penalised for handball. Birmingham midfielder Barry Ferguson was sent off deep into added time to take this weekend's Premier League tally of dismissals to nine.
