Valencia CF have made Netherlands midfielder Hedwiges Maduro their second signing of the January transfer window in a deal which reunites the player with his former coach at AFC Ajax, Ronald Koeman.

Koeman connection
Maduro has joined on a four-and-a-half year contract and follows Argentinian midfielder Ever Banega through the arrivals door at the Mestalla. Valencia have paid an undisclosed fee for the 22-year-old, whose deal with Ajax was due to expire this summer. Capped 12 times by the Netherlands, Maduro made 107 appearances in all competitions for Ajax after graduating from the youth ranks to the first team in 2005, when Koeman gave him his debut in a UEFA Cup tie against AJ Auxerre.

'Great football'
"I know Koeman well, he's a great coach," said Maduro, who captained the Netherlands to victory in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship last summer. He added: "I've chosen Valencia because they're a big club who are capable of playing great football and I'm also really excited about being able to play in Spanish football."
