Franck Ribéry made a happy return from injury to help holders FC Bayern München into the German Cup last 16 with a 2-0 win against 1. FC Nürnberg.

Victory
Ribéry, who has a successful debut season at Bayern in 2007/08, suffered tore ankle ligaments during France's UEFA EURO 2008™ exit against Italy and has not played since, but came off the bench with 25 minutes left against second division opposition tonight. Bayern were already 1-0 up through Miroslav Klose and with Ribéry on the pitch they made certain of victory as Luca Toni and Andreas Ottl combined to set up Tim Borowski.

Hoffenheim humbled
VfL Wolfsburg also had a happy night as they won 7-0 at fourth-level side FC Oberneuland with four goals from Edin Dzeko. However, TSG 1899 Hoffenheim – who lie second on their spectacular Bundesliga bow – came down to earth as they were knocked out 3-1 by 2. Bundesliga team SC Freiburg. League leaders FC Schalke 04 had already been among Tuesday night's winners, while also on Wednesday, VfB Stuttgart beat DSC Arminia Bielefeld 2-0, Hamburger SV saw off VfL Bochum 1848 by the same score, Karlsruher SC also claimed two unanswered goals at Offenbacher Kickers 1901 and BV Borussia Dortmund overcame Hertha BSC Berlin 2-1 in extra time.
