Eto'o makes Poland feel the pain

Poland 0-3 Cameroon
Poland's preparations for UEFA EURO 2012 suffered another jolt on Wednesday as Samuel Eto'o scored twice for Cameroon in Szczecin.

Maybe it wasn't as bad as in our last friendly against Spain when we lost 6-0, but this was still painful

Eto'o opened the scoring on the half-hour mark and struck again seven minutes after the restart before Vincent Aboubakar rounded off the scoring with four minutes remaining. The UEFA EURO 2012 co-hosts had their chances but were unable to take them, leaving captain Michał Żewłakow to reflect on a "very disappointing result".

He added: "Maybe it wasn't as bad as in our last friendly against Spain when we lost 6-0, but this was still painful. We can't seem to find our rhythm and we let our opponents dominate the game. We had some good chances but were unable to score and if you fail to score against a team like Cameroon, sooner or later they will punish you."

Eto'o issued a warning as early as the third minute when he tried to lob Łukasz Fabiański only to underhit his shot. He came close again on 28 minutes, but made no mistake soon after when he stabbed in after the Poland defence had failed to clear a corner.

Having fallen behind, Poland began to press forward and Rafał Murawski was unfortunate to see his shot strike the crossbar. A minute later it took a last-gasp block to thwart Robert Lewandowski as he bore down on goal. Having survived that scare, Eto'o doubled Cameroon's advantage in the 52nd minute with a powerful strike from outside the area that left substitute Przemysław Tytoń no chance in the Poland goal.

The home side redoubled their efforts and Lewandowski was disappointed not to reduce the arrears after bursting clear on 84 minutes. Two minutes later, however, Cameroon struck again – 18-year-old Aboubakar getting the better of Kamil Glik before firing in.
