Ukraine fall to youthful Brazil

Brazil 2-0 Ukraine
Goals in either half by Daniel Alves and Pato completed a deserved win for the South American side in a friendly international played in England.

A young Brazil side proved too strong for Ukraine with European-based pair Daniel Alves and Pato scoring the goals in a 2-0 victory in Derby, England.

Ukraine – under the stewardship of interim coach Yuriy Kalitvintsev – fell behind after 25 minutes to a deflected Alves effort and their defeat was confirmed when AC Milan forward Pato drove in the second 26 minutes from time.

Alves was a menacing presence for Brazil in a first half dominated by Mano Menezes's team, the FC Barcelona full-back chipping over the first chance, before Olexandr Aliyev tested Victor for the first time with a 30-metre free-kick that the goalkeeper shovelled wide.

David Luiz volleyed over Thiago Silva's cushioned header before Brazil finally made the breakthrough, Alves's volley from Pato's deep cross deflecting off Olexandr Romanchuk and in off the far post.

Pato also struck an upright and Carlos Eduardo blazed over after an error by Anatoliy Tymoshchuk on his 100th international appearance, with Ukraine's Aliyev seeing a drive ruled out following a foul by Artem Milevskiy in the build-up.

The UEFA EURO 2012 co-hosts were more purposeful after the restart with Ruslan Rotan's deflected shot hitting a post but any hopes of prising a result disappeared when Carlos Eduardo crossed from the right and Pato turned Vitaliy Mandzyuk before finishing from close range.
