Czech Republic beaten by late Gyurcsó strike

Czech Republic 1-2 Hungary
An 88th-minute goal from Ádám Gyurcsó condemned Michal Bílek's team to defeat in their final warm-up match before UEFA EURO 2012.

The Czech Republic rounded off their preparations for UEFA EURO 2012 by losing to Hungary in Prague, substitute Ádám Gyurcsó landing the decisive blow two minutes from time.

Proceedings did not start well for the Czechs either, Balázs Dzsudzsák putting the visitors in the ascendancy with a quickly-taken free-kick after six minutes. Michal Kadlec equalised from the spot midway through the first half and although the Group A contenders enjoyed a wealth of possession thereafter, Gyurcsó punished them for failing to turn their superiority into chances.

Missing the services of captain and playmaker Tomáš Rosický, who continues to recover from a calf injury, the Czechs fell behind courtesy of some quick thinking from Dzsudzsák. With the hosts preparing their defensive wall, the FC Dinamo Moskva striker took a free-kick which caught Petr Čech by surprise, the goalkeeper only able to get his right hand to the ball before it reached the back of the net.

Bílek's men responded with Jan Rezek having a goal disallowed following a foul by Daniel Kolář, yet they were soon back on level terms. Milan Baroš ran into the penalty box and after he was fouled by Roland Juhász, Kadlec – the Czechs' four-goal top scorer in qualifying – restored parity from the spot.

Enjoying possession in excess of 70%, the Czech Republic continued to press. On the hour Rezek's header, from a Jaroslav Plašil set piece, was blocked by Juhász, but that was as good as it got for the hosts, who conceded again late on. Dzsudzsák was again their nemesis, playing a raking pass to Gyurcsó, whose cross-shot sailed into the net.

The Czechs will travel by train on Sunday to Wroclaw, venue for their opening match of UEFA EURO 2012 against Russia on 8 June.
