Bosnia and Herzegovina overcome Mexico

Mexico 0-1 Bosnia and Herzegovina
Izet Hajrović struck to earn victory for his side in their last friendly before their FIFA World Cup bow.

Bosnia and Herzegovina ended their American tour with a 1-0 victory against Mexico in Chicago.

The Dragons, who overcame the Ivory Coast on Saturday, head for Brazil in positive spirits after defeating fellow FIFA World Cup contenders Mexico on Tuesday evening. Coach Safet Sušić, who on Sunday opted to include previously injured midfielder Mensur Mujdža in the 23 to cross the Atlantic at the expense of Ervin Zukanović, also brought Sejad Salihović and Senad Lulić into his starting XI.

After two missed chances by Edin Džeko at the beginning of the match, Mexico could have taken the lead themselves with their first serious attack on 25 minutes, but Javier Hernández struck a post. Izet Hajrović made no such mistake three minutes before the interval. The Galatasaray AŞ winger capitalised on fine build-up play from Džeko, Lulić and Salihović to finish from ten metres.

Miralem Pjanić nearly doubled his country's advantage soon after half-time, but his header was saved. Asmir Begović needed to be equally alert towards the end to keep out Javier Rodríguez and Alan Pulido.

Bosnia and Herzegovina are in Group F in the World Cup, and will play their first-ever finals game against Argentina in Rio de Janeiro on 16 June. Six days later they take on Nigeria in Cuiaba before facing Iran on 25 June in Salvador.
