Former UEFA Futsal Cup winners MFK Dinamo Moskva will make their return to the competition in Slovenia while debutants FC Barcelona travel to Riga after the 2011/12 preliminary round and main round draws took place in Nyon.
A record 49 clubs from 48 associations are in contention for the UEFA Futsal Cup's 11th edition and 45 of them were involved in the draws. The 28 lowest-ranked contenders will begin in the preliminary round from 13 to 21 August and have been split into seven groups of four teams.
Among those sides are The New Saints FC – the first entrants from Wales, who visit Switzerland to play fellow newcomers Geneva Futsal – Irish champions EID Futsal and FK Nautara Kaunas. AC Omonia Nicosia, aiming to emulate AGBU Ararat Nicosia's run to the elite round last season, host Group G against Eerebuni Yerevan, Sporting Clube de Paris and KF Flamurtari Vlora of Albania.
All seven group winners will join the 17 clubs who were given byes in the main round, which was also drawn today – resulting in six sections of four teams. Dinamo, champions in 2007 and back in Europe after a two-year absence, face competition regulars Athina '90, Slovenian hosts FC Litija and the winners of preliminary round Group F. Barcelona, meanwhile, will try to replicate the success of their footballing colleagues when they take on Group 2 hosts FK Nikars Riga and a pair of preliminary round qualifiers. Matches will take place between 24 September and 2 October.
The top two in each main round group will progress to the elite round draw on 11 October, where they will join the four highest-ranked clubs: holders ASD Città di Montesilvano C/5, 2011 runners-up Sporting Clube de Portugal and the last two bronze-medallists, Kairat Almaty and Araz Naxçivan. The elite round is played from 12 to 20 November and will decide the four teams that will compete in the finals next April.
