FK EP Chrudim won a five-goal thriller on the opening day of the UEFA Futsal Cup main round while City'US Târgu Mureş were the other victors in Group 3.

Czech champions Chrudim, hosting the first of this week's six mini-tournaments, have reached the elite round five years running. They made a good start this time round, captain Petr Vladyka giving them a 1-0 half-time lead against Ukraine's Energy Lviv. Douglas doubled the advantage but, deploying a flying goalkeeper, Energy pulled one back through Maxym Pavlenko and Dmytro Bondar levelled with less than four minutes left. However, Chrudim then took off impressing keeper Tomáš Meller and made the extra outfield player count when Max struck with 120 seconds left.

Târgu Mureş, who have got to the elite round two seasons in a row, had earlier secured a 3-1 win against preliminary round qualifiers KMF Leotar Trebinje. Florin Matei's first goal was cancelled out by Siniša Mulina late in the first half but the Romania forward netted again early in the second and Dumitru Stoica made sure of victory.

The fixtures in this section continue on Wednesday and the two elite round qualifiers could be decided if Târgu Mureş overcome Energy and Chrudim defeat Leotar. Four of the remaining five groups also get under way.
