Big guns set up Sunday showdowns

All four UEFA Futsal Cup Elite round groups will be decided in Sunday's concluding games after today's Matchday 2 fixtures produced second wins for the favourites, though only holders Interviú Madrid have a points cushion in their section. uefa.com rounds up Friday's action, with only the group winners progressing to April's finals.

Group A
Former runners-up ElPozo Murcia followed up their 12-0 defeat of Iberia 2003 Tbilisi with a 9-2 win against Action 21 Charleroi to end the Belgian side's hopes of repeating their 2004/05 triumph. Two Vinicius goals helped Murcia to a 4-0 half-time lead but with five minutes to go they were only 5-2 up before a late burst of goals, including Kike's second, from the penalty spot after Sebastiano Canaris was sent off, and two in a minute by Saúl. ElPozo only need a draw against Luparense Calcio A5 on Sunday after the Italian hosts remained second on goal difference following a 4-1 win against Iberia though Poncio Danieli, Maquiel, Rogerio De Oliveira and Vampeta.

Group B
MFK Viz-Sinara Ekaterinburg, winners on their 2007/08 debut and runners-up last season, now have two victories and eleven goals without reply after seeing off Dutch side FC Marlène 9-0, aided by two goals each by Konstantin Agapov – in the first 128 seconds – Konstantin Timoschenkov and Sergei Abramov. However, Ekaterinburg trail Sunday opponents SL Benfica on goals scored after the mini-tournament hosts beat Croatia's MNK Potpićan 98 8-1. Patrik Drndić gave Potpićan on early lead but Pedro Costa and Joel Queirós hit back quickly. Pedro Costa made it 3-1 at the break and in the second half Ricardinho and Joel Queirós and then Davi and Arnaldo both scored in quick succession and Marinho's 32nd-minute strike kept Benfica on top of the group and a point against Ekaterinburg from qualification.

Group C
Interviú and FC Time Lviv were the only Matchday 1 winners to face each other on Friday and the Spanish side were two up in the first seven minutes thanks to Gabriel and Schumacher. Oleksandr Kondratyuk pulled one back before the break but Borja secured a 3-1 win for the defending champions with seven minutes left. Czech hosts FK Era-Pack Chrudim needed to recover from their 4-2 defeat by Time to keep their hopes alive but conceded three equalisers before beating Slovenia's KMN Puntar 4-3. With less than four minutes to go Radek Mikan made it 3-2 only for Siniša Brkič to almost instantly level but with only 53 seconds remaining, Max clinched victory for Chrudim. They must now beat Interviú on Sunday to have any chance and if Time beat Puntar, Chrudim will need a win or 4-2 or better. Time need to defeat Puntar and hope Chrudim overcome Interviú 2-0, while the Spanish team require only a draw as they are three points clear, and a one-goal loss would be sufficient if Lviv win.

Group D
Kairat Almaty, semi-finalists for three years out of the last four, edged a 3-2 win against FK Nikars Riga, just as versus Athina' 90 Athens on Thursday. Anderson put Kairat ahead early but Aleksejs Baranovs claimed his competition-leading eleventh goal of the campaign to level on 15 minutes. Leo quickly made it 2-1 and scored again in the second half, but Vadims Atamaņukovs pulled one back and although Guga missed a late Kairat penalty, Nikars are out but it has been a superb campaign for the sole Preliminary round survivors. However, Kairat still trail Sunday opponents Araz Naxçivan on goal difference after the Azerbaijani hosts cruised past Athina 7-0, including hat-tricks for Felipe Ribeiro and Namig Mammadkarimov.
