FC Barcelona's bid for a second successive UEFA Futsal Cup win and third overall remains on course after they defeated hosts Sporting Clube de Portugal to go through to Sunday's final against Kairat Almaty.

Sporting's stalwart goalkeeper João Benedito was picked to start ahead of Cristiano and he was to have the first chance, running forward and forcing opposite number Paco Sedano into a save. Indeed, Sporting had the better of the opportunities early on, as they drew strength from the atmosphere created by a competition record 12,076 crowd.

Benedito soon had to showcase his goalkeeping ability, however, as he was tested three times by Ferrao. Barcelona were slightly on top, but it was Sporting who took the lead when their opponents lost the ball in midfield, Caio breaking to set up Diogo, who slid his shot past Sedano.

The holders responded calmly and, despite vintage heroics from Benedito, the scores were levelled when Gabriel – playing a record 13th last-four match – released Dyego to find the net. Even worse for Sporting, Benedito was forced off with an injury, though replacement Cristiano is as regular a starter.

Having brought themselves back on terms, Barcelona came out firing in the second half, piling on the pressure, and it told when Lin's corner was driven in by Wilde. With the atmosphere unrelenting, Sporting tried to push back, yet they were soon punished further.

After Bateria was fouled, Barcelona made the most of the free-kick, with Wilde playing a one-two with Lin and lashing in his second goal of the game, matching his tally when Barcelona beat Sporting 5-1 during the 2012 semis in Lleida.

That did not silence the crowd, and with seven minutes left the ball broke loose after a Sporting corner, allowing João Matos to turn it in. Alex was then deployed as flying goalkeeper as the hosts increased their threat and, with less than four minutes to go, Diogo set up Caio to shoot past Sedano and equalise.

Extra time loomed, but with 35 seconds left Bateria shot through a crowd of players to restore Barcelona's lead. And with the very last kick, Sedano punted into an empty net to break the home crowd's hearts.
