• Based in the Lora district also home to HNK Hajduk Split, the Spaladium Arena takes its name from the Latin name for Split and opened on 27 December 2008 with a concert featuring Oliver Dragojević and Toni Cetinski, in time for the following month's World Men's Handball Championship. It can hold as many as 15,000 people for concerts.
• Among events held there since are a Davis Cup tennis quarter-final between Croatia and Serbia, MMA and K-1 combat events, home games for basketball side KK Split and futsal tournaments.
• UEFA Futsal EURO 2012 Group A, featuring Croatia, will be played at the Spaladium Arena along with the three Group C matches and two quarter-finals.
• Located in the south of Croatia on the eastern shore of the Adriatic, Split is the nation's second city with a wider metropolitan population of close to 500,000 and was originally a Greek settlement. Split has a great sporting tradition, notably staging the 1990 European Athletics Championships, as well as giving the world Goran Ivanišević.
•In futsal, MNK Split have been the dominant force in Croatia, their 2010/11 title the seventh since 1996/97. They reached the 2001/02 UEFA Futsal Cup semi-finals, perhaps Croatia's greatest achievement in the sport.
