Two-time finalists Ukraine reached the last four in 2005 and they made sure of their passage to Portugal this November largely thanks largely to five unanswered first half goals. They then needed Andorra to fail to defeat their Matchday 1 victims Israel in the second game of the night. And although the group hosts - who lost their opener to Slovakia - led 3-1 at half-time, Israel came back for a 4-3 victory. It all means Ukraine can not be caught when they conclude the section against Andorra on Thursday after Israel take on Slovakia.
Holders Spain, 2005 runners-up Russia, the other former champions Italy, Serbia, the Czech Republic and, for the first time, Romania had already qualified for the finals from 16-25 November alongside hosts Portugal. The draw is on 12 May at 13.30CET in Porto with four teams to be seeded; Portugal, Spain and the two other highest-ranked teams from the final eight.
