All European entrants for the 2012 FIFA Futsal World Cup entered either the preliminary or main round draws.
In the preliminary round draw the 20 lowest-ranked teams were drawn into five groups of four. The 20 teams, including World Cup debutants Norway, San Marino and Switzerland plus UEFA Futsal EURO 2012 qualifiers Turkey, were split into four seeding categories by coefficient and each group will contain one nation from each section. Five nations were assigned as mini-tournament hosts and drawn separately and placed in each group according to their seeding.
The teams progressing from that stage join the top-ranked teams in the 28-strong main round, also drawn on 7 July. The contenders were split into four seeding categories and the draw procedure was similar to that for the preliminary round, including pre-designated hosts. The top two teams in each main round group will progress to the play-offs which will decide the seven qualifiers for the finals in Thailand.
