Romanian football is in mourning following the death of former Universitatea Craiova defender Nicolae Tilihoi.
Having started his career at local sides Progresul Brăila (1974-75) and FC Brăila (1975-76), Tilihoi became a big name nationally at Universitatea Craiova from 1976-87. That 'Craiova Maxima' side won two league titles and four Romanian Cups, and also made an impact in UEFA competitions, Tilihoi helping them to reach the 1981/82 European Cup quarter-finals and the 1982/83 UEFA Cup semi-finals.
Tilihoi also made nine international appearances for Romania before finishing his career at lower-division side Metalul Bocșa in 1987/88. He subsequently coached in the lower divisions.
