• A financial expert, who has worked as an independent company auditor, Gérard Linard was the president of amateur side R.E.S. Couvin-Mariembourg, and chairman of the ACFF (Association des Clubs Francophones de Football), the football association of French-speaking clubs in Belgium.

• He was a member of the Belgian FA’s Executive Committee from 1 July 2009, and was the association’s interim general secretary (CEO) between February 2015 and October 2016. On 24 June 2017, he was elected for a two-year term as the eleventh president in the FA’s history.

• Linard identified four key words for his presidency - “harmonise, digitalise, centralise and modernise. I especially want to give an impulse to the swift realisation of the FA’s goals and plans. I want to be the president of everyone [amateurs and professionals].”
