UEFA's financial backing is helping the International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) continue its development programme in futsal for blind and partially sighted players.
The IBSA – which was awarded UEFA's annual CHF 1m charity cheque in 2006 – stages clinics in Budapest, Hungary, this weekend. The clinics are aimed at coaches and referees and are organised as part of the IBSA Futsal Development Project Europe, made possible thanks to support from European football's governing body, which nurtures football for all abilities.
Forty-five coaches and referees from six countries will attend the two-day clinics, with classroom sessions on coaching blind players and refereeing matches taking place alongside hands-on practical sessions. A group of local blind players has been recruited to take part in the practical sessions, and the participating nations are hosts Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Moldova, Romania and Bulgaria.
