A new cookery app gives young people the chance to cook the same healthy recipes as some of the world's top footballers.

The Eat for Goals! app is based on the successful book of the same name, which was created under the patronage of UEFA, the World Heart Federation (WHF) and the European Commission.

The app shows young people how to prepare the same healthy meals as some of their favourite football stars, with the aim of encouraging them to eat healthily and lead an active lifestyle.

Once the app is downloaded, young people aged seven and over are encouraged to 'score a goal' to see recipes from 11 world-class talents: Frank Lampard, Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaká, Carles Puyol, Steven Gerrard, David Villa, Yaya Touré, Paul Pogba, Lotta Schelin, Rachel Yankey and Samuel Eto’o.

As well as seeing what footballers like to eat, the app also provides interesting food facts and step-by-step instructions, making it easy for even the less-experienced to make delicious, healthy dinners in no time at all.

"UEFA is happy to support the Eat for Goals! campaign and is confident the new app will give parents the opportunity to try out healthy recipes with their families, with the added bonus that each recipe is from a famous footballer," says the European football body. "The Eat for Goals! app encourages people to eat healthily and lead an active lifestyle – and UEFA hopes adults and children alike also further support that way of life by playing and participating in football."

The new app includes the best of the Eat for Goals! book, in a user-friendly digital format. The messaging stays the same – eat healthily and have an active lifestyle, by playing a sport such as football. This message is supported by some of the youngsters' favourite role models.
