UEFA to meet supporter groups

UEFA is holding a follow-up meeting with fan groups from across Europe this week as the dialogue between Europe football's governing body and supporters takes fresh steps forward.

Exchange of views
Fans from 15 organisations will attend the gathering at the House of European Football in Nyon on Monday to hold discussions with UEFA President Michel Platini – initiator of the dialogue – UEFA General Secretary David Taylor and other UEFA officials. The meeting will focus on how supporters can make a contribution to the modern-day game, and gives UEFA the opportunity to put forward its own views and hear the fans' valued opinions.

Supporters Direct report
Representatives of supporters' groups from a cross-section of UEFA's 53 member associations, from Israel and Slovakia to Scotland and Norway, will take part in the forum, where they will be presented with a report compiled by the UK-based body, Supporters Direct. The study, which was commissioned by UEFA, looks at the feasibility of recreating Supporters Direct's highly-successful setup on a pan-European scale, to advise fans on how they can become involved in the running of their clubs.

Variety of topics
Safety and security, supporter behaviour and disciplinary matters will also be under the spotlight, while the nine representatives selected for the steering committee at the inaugural European Football Fans' Congress last summer – an event partly financed by UEFA – will give an update on their activities. UEFA will outline its main objectives for the coming year, namely financial fair play, preparations for UEFA EURO 2012™, and the education and protection of youth players.
