Wolverhampton Wanderers FC have parted company with manager Mick McCarthy in the wake of Sunday's 5-1 derby home defeat by West Bromwich Albion FC.
The loss left Wolves third from bottom in the Premier League, with a promising start to the season long forgotten following a run of 14 points from 22 league games. It spelled the end for McCarthy, a former Republic of Ireland player and manager, who departs after five-and-a-half years at the helm. He guided them to the second division title in 2008/09. His assistant Terry Connor will assume temporary charge.
