LOSC Lille Métropole are fifth after beating AS Monaco FC 4-0 while fourth-placed Montpellier Hérault SC drew 1-1 with Toulouse FC.
The top two of Olympique de Marseille and AJ Auxerre were both victorious on Saturday but Olympique Lyonnais drew 2-2 with FC Girondins de Bordeaux to give Montpellier the chance of going third with a win against Toulouse. They looked on course to take that opportunity thanks to Alberto Costa's opener on 32 minutes but were ultimately forced to settle for a point after Kazım Kazım, on loan from Fenerbahçe SK, volleyed in Adrien Regattin's cross to level two minutes into second-half added time.
Montpellier are now level with Lyon, currently occupying the final UEFA Champions League spot, on 59 points – four adrift of Auxerre and nine behind Marseille – while a further point off the pace are Lille. Rudi Garcia's side's title hopes had been dented by a run of just one win in four league games in recent weeks but their European credentials remain alive and kicking thanks to a comprehensive victory against Monaco.
Aurélien Chedjou (14) gave Lille a lead which Yohan Cabaye doubled from the penalty spot on the stroke of half-time. Cabaye added a third with 15 minutes left and Túlio de Melo completed the scoring in added time. The late game between AS Saint-Etienne and Paris Saint-Germain FC ended goalless.
