Bayern hit six to stay in touch

FC Bayern München scored six to take their tally to 20 goals in seven days, but they remain second in the Bundesliga, with Borussia Dortmund still five points clear at the top.

FC Bayern München took their total to 20 goals in three games as they put six past Hertha BSC Berlin to keep a tight grip on second place in the Bundesliga.

There was no turning back after Thomas Müller put them into a ninth-minute lead, and Arjen Robben struck twice before the 20th minute was out – with his second effort a penalty. Mario Gomez made it 4-0 from the spot five minutes after the interval, with Toni Kroos striking again a minute later before the third penalty of the game saw Robben complete his hat-trick on 67 minutes. Bayern beat TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 7-1 last weekend and scored seven without reply against FC Basel 1893 in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday.

Bayern remain five points adrift of league leaders Borussia Dortmund, who won 1-0 against SV Werder Bremen thanks to Shinji Kagawa's eighth-minute strike. VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach kept up the pace in third, with Igor De Camargo's late winner at Bayer 04 Leverkusen, who looked to have earned a point when, with 15 minutes to go, Stefan Kiessling cancelled out Marco Reus's opener for Lucien Favre's men.

Struggling SC Freiburg won 3-1 at Hamburger SV, VfL Wolfsburg came from behind to prevail by the same scoreline at 1. FC Nürnberg, and FC Augsburg struck back to beat 1. FSV Mainz 05 2-1.
