FC Bayern München maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the Bundesliga after winning 2-0 at home to Eintracht Frankfurt, while second-placed FC Schalke 04 and reigning champions Borussia Dortmund both bounced back from last week's slip-ups with wins.
It took until the 44th minute for Jupp Heynckes' charges to take the lead against Frankfurt, Franck Ribéry tapping in a Javi Martínez pass from close range. David Alaba converted a penalty 13 minutes from time to seal the win.
Schalke lost to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Dortmund drew with VfB Stuttgart in their last league outings, but both recovered with victories. The Gelsenkirchen outfit fell behind to an Aaron Hunt strike at home to SV Werder Bremen, but second-half goals from Roman Neustädter and Julian Draxler turned the tables and secured a 2-1 triumph.
In contrast, Dortmund took an early lead through Marco Reus' fine free-kick from the acutest of angles – a fifth Bundesliga goal for the summer signing from VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. A second-half double from Robert Lewandowski wrapped up victory despite a late Sascha Mölders header, the 3-1 win leaving Jürgen Klopp's side fourth, nine points adrift of Bayern.
Elsewhere, Fortuna Düsseldorf 1895 and SC Freiburg were both held to home stalemates by Hoffenheim and Hamburger SV respectively.
