Alberto Malesani has been appointed as coach of Genoa CFC after the club decided not to renew terms with Davide Ballardini at the end of last season.

Malesani, 57, left Bologna FC earlier this month after failing to negotiate an extension to his contract despite leading the side to safety last term. He has signed a one-year deal at Genoa, with a further 12-month option.

Malesani made his name at AC Chievo Verona during the 1990s before spells with ACF Fiorentina, Parma FC, Udinese Calcio and Panathinaikos FC among the others. Genoa ended tenth last campaign.
