Juventus established a five-point lead at the top of Serie A after defeating ten-man Torino FC 3-0 in the first Derby della Mole since March 2009.
That the first half ended goalless was not for the lack of opportunity or incident, the most significant of which took place in the 36th minute when Torino defender Kamil Glik was shown a straight red card for a strong challenge on Emanuele Giaccherini.
Before the break, Migjen Basha brought down the enterprising Paul Pogba, who had twice tested visiting goalkeeper Jean-François Gillet from distance, but Andrea Pirlo put his penalty over the crossbar.
If the unmarked Pogba let the Granata off the hook again four minutes after the restart – heading over from close range – Turin-born Claudio Marchisio was not so forgiving just before the hour, bursting into the box to nod in Sebastian Giovinco's right-wing delivery.
Provider turned scorer ten minutes later, with Giovinco driving a shot across Gillet and into the far corner, before Marchisio profited from Mirko Vučinić's chested lay-off late on to register.
Second-placed SSC Napoli will trim the Bianconeri's advantage if they beat Pescara in Sunday's early kick-off. FC Internazionale Milano and ACF Fiorentina, two points further back, host US Città di Palermo and UC Sampdoria respectively.
