Task too straightforward for Santa Coloma

FC Santa Coloma coach Vicenç Marquès told uefa.com he was disappointed that the new Andorran season had already become a two-horse race, saying it was "like a personal battle between" his side and UE Sant Julià.
FC Santa Coloma coach Vicenç Marquès told uefa.com he is disappointed that the new Andorran season has already become a two-horse race between his side and UE Sant Julià, saying it was "like a personal battle between the two clubs".

'Playing for everything'
Six games into the campaign, champions Santa Coloma are top of the standings, a point clear of Sant Julià, and while FC Lusitans are just two points further back, Marquès cannot see any other team challenging the front two just yet. "This year's title race is quite similar to last year's," he said. "There are two very strong teams while the rest are a little weaker. It's like a personal battle between two clubs to finish first. It's very difficult because [Santa Coloma and Sant Juliá] are practically playing for everything when they meet."

Heads or tails
Marquès's side won 1-0 at home to Sant Julià in their first encounter of the season on 19 October, with Teixeira scoring the only goal 12 minutes from the end. "It was one of those heads-or-tails matches," Marquès said. "The two teams are on a very equal footing and the whole campaign hinges on these meetings which can give either side the title. In this one, we dominated and had two exceptional chances. At the start of the second period things got complicated for us with the sending-off of one of our players and they responded by coming at us in search of victory. With ten men we began to play well on the counterattack and took one of the opportunities we created."

Rànger's flaccid
The victory leaves Santa Coloma as the only unbeaten team in the Primera Divisió, the side having scored 21 goals and conceded just one, with that coming in a 4-1 thrashing of FC Rànger's – their only serious rivals last season. This time round, the 2005/06 and 2006/07 champions are well off the pace, and Marquès is hoping other teams can fill the void left by their travails. "Rànger's are not up there with us yet but other clubs such as Lusitans and CE Principat have taken their place," he said. "I still believe these teams have yet to find their best form, though, which is why we have something of a two-horse race at the moment."
