Guillaume Gillet's late strike handed RSC Anderlecht their tenth Belgian Super Cup victory after the Brussels side had let a 2-0 lead slip against KSC Lokeren OV in the capital.
Following a tentative opening at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, the Belgian champions went ahead on 24 minutes when Kanu's cross from the left landed at the feet of Dennis Praet, allowing the 18-year-old to finish with aplomb. Anderlecht then doubled their advantage two minutes into the second half as Dieudonné Mbokani headed in.
The game was by no means finished, however, and a minute later Ivan Leko lifted the ball over Silvio Proto after finding himself one on one with the goalkeeper. Leko also struck the equaliser shortly afterwards as he made the most of Benjamin De Ceulaer's assist, but Gillet brought Les Mauves their first silverware of the 2012/13 season by collecting a pass from Kanu and driving into the top corner with 15 minutes remaining.
"It's always beautiful to score the winning goal," commented the match winner. "We didn't play too badly, but we still have some work to do – otherwise we'd be FC Barcelona. We were eager to win the match as a trophy is always nice for the club.
"Now we have to focus on our first league match first KV Kortrijk [on Saturday], and then we will think about the qualification games for the Champions League." Anderlecht will contest the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League against either Shamrock Rovers FC or FK Ekranas on 31 July/1 August and 7/8 August.
