Tudor comes home to launch coaching career

Ex-Juventus defender Igor Tudor spoke of his excitement after relinquishing national-team duties to take the reins at HNK Hajduk Split following Miše Krstičević's departure.

Former Juventus defender Igor Tudor has relinquished his Croatian national team duties to take the reins at HNK Hajduk Split after Miše Krstičević parted company with the club on Monday.

Krstičević left in the wake of Sunday's 2-1 home defeat by HNK Rijeka which caused the sides lying third and fourth in the First League to swap places. Tudor, who had been an assistant to boss Igor Štimac in the Croatia setup, has been installed as Hajduk seek to return to third. It is his first head coach position.

"This is great for me, to get an opportunity at the beginning of my coaching career to work in the city where I was born and the club where I grew up," said the 35-year-old, capped 55 times by his country. "My goal will be to get the maximum out of the players and we will try to book a European place. I am confident I can do a good job."

Hajduk will face NK Lokomotiva Zagreb in May's two-legged Croatian Cup final.
