The Cyprus Football Association (CFA) has launched perhaps its biggest initiative yet for youth football on the Mediterranean island.
Starting in December, a total of 4,300 young players aged between seven and 12, and representing 144 junior teams, are taking part in this year's domestic grassroots championship.
In accordance with the competition regulations, all the teams were placed into groups with the goal of reaching the championship finals which will take place in May.
The declared aim of the CFA for this year's grassroots championship is to give more young players than ever before the opportunity to play football.
December was also notable for the CFA hosting a seminar for the grassroots diploma. The seminar was attended by 36 candidates, including current national team captain loannis Okkas.
