Anorthosis Famagusta FC have named former Bulgaria national team boss Stanimir Stoilov as coach for the remainder of season following the resignation of Slobodan Krčmarević last week.
Stoilov, 43, will become the fourth coach to lead Anorthosis in 2010 following brief stints by Slavoljub Muslin, Nicos Nicolaou, Guillermo Hoyos and Krčmarević. He takes over a side already 19 points behind leaders APOEL FC. "I have been appointed by a big club with a 100-year history," Stoilov said. "
We will be aiming for a top-four finish and the Cypriot Cup."
Stoilov, who has never coached outside his native Bulgaria, guided PFC Levski Sofia to the UEFA Champions League group stage for the first time in 2006. He was apointed coach of Bulgaria in January 2009 but resigned in October following a UEFA EURO 2012 qualifying defeat at home to Montenegro. Anorthosis, who became the first Cypriot side to reach the UEFA Champions League group stage in 2008/09, celebrate their centenary next month.
