Anorthosis Famagusta FC have dismissed coach Ernst Middendorp a little under three months after his appointment following the Cypriot club's shock elimination from the UEFA Europa League.
The 50-year-old German was installed as coach in early May but has paid the highest of prices for defeat in the second qualifying round by FK Petrovac. After winning the first leg 2-1, Anorthosis – who reached the UEFA Champions League group stage last year having started out in the first qualifying round – were taken to extra time by their Montenegrin opponents before losing 4-3 on aggregate. In addition to the departure of Middendorp, the club have dispensed with the services of Bosnian goalkeeper Nemanja Supić.
A club statement released on Saturday read: "The executive board of Anorthosis Famagusta during today's meeting decided to terminate the contracts of both Ernst Middendorp and Nemanja Supić."
